november 2017 - Ruth, TNT/Kid's club and the making of our Christmas eve video!

NOVEMBER 2017!

We have a lot to be thankful for here at Highland :)  Our Sunday school classes are run by amazing volunteers who love the children and love teaching them about God!  This month we talked about Ruth and also about being thankful!
The 1st/2nd graders made a Thankfulness tree.  They wrote what they were thankful for on the leaves and stuck them up!

 Beautiful finished product :)

4th/5th grade playing Pictionary :)

This month, the 1st/2nd graders and the 4th/5th graders made Ruth cartoons on a fun Ipad app!  I love their creativity!!  Check out their work :)

 GYM DAY!

The kids had to run to the correct corner when I asked them questions about the story...was the answer Ruth, Naomi, Boaz or Orpah?  Better hurry...you only have 5 seconds! (I love how M slid into the corner every time :)

You know how Ruth supported Naomi?  "Where you go, I will go...".  We played a game where they had to support each other.  I called out two numbers and that was how many feet and hands could be touching the floor :)  Example - 5 hands and 5 feet!

this group got creative - look, no hands or feet! :) lol
Everyone got to be "Ruth" and collect the wheat...how many can you carry?!

soccer!  everyone got a number and when it was called they went up against each other :)

Mr. Josh met with us one Sunday to take short video clips of the kids in costume (and reading)
for our Christmas eve video!  Here are just a few shots of the kiddos working hard :)  they did awesome!  Can't wait to see the videos!!

For Christmas we will be talking about all the pieces of the Nativity, what role each figure had and why they're important!  On Christmas eve morning the kids will be able to take home their own Nativity set!
God bless!!

Oct. 2017 - Prodigal Son, TNT and Kids Club and Trunk or Treat!

What a fun October!  We had a lot of children participate this month in our activities - including Sunday school.  I love to see so many little faces worshiping God at Highland :)  Makes my heart happy!
During Sunday school this month, the kids (with the exception of the 3rd graders), learned about the story of the Prodigal Son.  We had our first "gym Sunday school" with Mr. Pete which was a lot of fun and we had our first real TNT and Kid's Club meeting.  In both groups we talked about doing good for others and made crafts to give away or sell at upcoming events.  Here are some pics of what we did this month!!

During our "Storytelling" class, the kids got to dress up like the prodigal son and go spend their "money" on things like clothes, games...

and food...

And they ran out of money so they had to feed the pigs and work! (I know, those are bunny ears...but I didn't have pig ears ;)

Bulletin board in the 1st/2nd grade room

One activity the 4th/5th graders did was to create their own erasers.  They formed a shape out of the erasers and then cooked them in the toaster oven to harden them. We made erasers because the son's sins were erased when he came home.  His father still loved him just as Jesus will always love us!

The third graders progressed through the Pentateuch and decorated cool hot air balloons for their
bulletin board - to keep track of how many times they bring their Bible!

Because we had a 5th Sunday in October, we had a special "movie morning" where we
watched the Veggietale's version of the Prodigal Son.

We got to have a beautiful second service outside - and the choristers sang!

SUNDAY IN THE GYM!
So the last Sunday of every month, we do games in the gym.  The games focus on 2 things - our story or team/group building.
This was an obstacle course where they were the prodigal son and went through all these
obstacles before he finally headed home...

(the pink balloons were the piggies ;)

 Sweetness <3

They each got to be the prodigal son and "herd" their piggie across the gym :)

Group building game - one side vs the other - soccer!  The catch - your hands
must be behind your back!

 TNT and KIDS CLUB!
Doing our devo in Kid's club where we talked about serving others and telling others about Christ.  We made decorations for our Kid's Club trunk for Trunk or Treat :)

Luminaries!
Thingies to hang from the trunk :)
Starbursts disguised as Bibles :)

 Pizza!!

The big kids enjoying their pizza :)
The TNT group talked about the Domino Effect and how when we do one thing
whether it be positive or negative, it can effect MANY, many people.  They each had to put up 10 dominos and knock them over...not an easy task!

Reading letters from their grandpals and responding!

TRUNK OR TREAT!

The kids helped me decorate the pastors' doors with sweet treats for pastor appreciation month!

It was a great month!  In November we will learn about the story of Ruth as well as talk about giving thanks :)
